Gaz de Normandie is developing an LNG terminal project at the Le Havre-Antifer port.
The aim of this project is to create a new entry point for natural gas into the French market and to enhance the security of supply for France and the European Union.
The port of Antifer, isolated beneath the cliffs in Pays de Caux, already receives 20% of the crude oil imported into France. It offers exceptionally safe conditions to accommodate ships of all sizes. With annual tonnage exceeding 12 million, it is one of the large French hydrocarbon ports.
The Gaz de Normandie project is part of the country’s sustainable development process, reconciling economic and social progress with protection of the environment.
Since the project began, design studies have given priority to the safety of local residents and of people working on the site, and to minimizing the environmental impact of the terminal. The main source of energy at the terminal is sea water, the heat from which is used to vaporize LNG.
Economically, this new infrastructure is related to development and diversification of port activities at Le Havre against a background of strong competition from the other large European ports.
